April is poetry month!Â We were introduced to poetry at the end of March when we had the poet, Ted Scheu, come to our school.Â He not only inspired us to read and write poems, but he also came into our class and taught us about a specific type of poem called a simile.Â We learned that a simile uses the words, â€œlikeâ€ or â€œasâ€ to compare things.Â We wrote â€œIâ€¦â€ poems to compare ourselves to different things.Â We hope you enjoy them!
I am shy like a cat when I have to talk in front of the class.
I am funny like a unicorn when I laugh with my friends.
I am happy like a dog when I play in the park.
I am jumpy like a rabbit when Iâ€™m hopping in the grass.
I am slow like a turtle when I have to go to bed.
I am fast like a lion chasing a rabbit.
I sleep like an owl when he hides in the trees.
I laugh like a monkey when I eat bananas and climb in the trees.
I am fast like a motorcycle when it gets gas.

I am friendly as an ant helping another with its food.

I am as sweet as chocolate kisses getting eaten.
I am sparkly as the sun waking up.
I am happy like a bee saying, â€œbuzz, buzz.â€
I am funny like an ape swinging from a vine.
I am smart like a mathematician and a scientist studying things.
I canâ€™t fly like a bird flying in the breeze.
I can hop like a rabbit getting carrots.
I am slow like a snail losing a race.
I can read like a book worm learning things.
I can flip like a dolphin in the blue water.
I can sit like a yoga man working hard in a room.
I can write like a poet with 100 ideas.
I can play like two dogs chasing after a cat.
I can cartwheel like a rolling wagon in the field.
Iâ€™m speedy like a cheetah in the orange desert running.
Iâ€™m slow like a turtle walking on green land.
Iâ€™m as brave as a tiger in a dark black cave.
Iâ€™m as helpful as an ant walking together in a line full of ants.
Iâ€™m as skippy like a horse galloping on the road.
Iâ€™m as sleepy as a dog laying down in my bed with my doll and snoring.

I swim like a squid swimming from a whale about to get eaten.
I hop like a rabbit getting carrots for lunch.
I am as fluffy as a sheepâ€™s soft wool.
I am funny like a clown in a circus telling really funny jokes.
I am jumpy like a mongoose when a snake is sneaking up on it to bite it.
I am cute as a kitten cuddled up with Mrs. Groven.
I am funny as a cat in bed playing with its toys.
I am fast as a cat outside when itâ€™s running away from a dog.
I am fast as a cheetah in the jungle.
I sing like a bird sitting in his nest in the tree.
I am funny like my dad when he plays basketball with me.

My animal looks like a little bear. It has a lot of fur. A bear cub lives in the den in the winter. It goes outside in the spring. A bear cub eats seeds, nuts, berries, flowers, and leaves. A bear cub sounds like, â€œroar!â€ A bear cub can swim. An interesting fact about a bear cub is that it can climb a tree.
